Dermal fillers have become very popular, due to their safe and effective profile. They can be used alongside muscle relaxants in the treatment of facial lines, furrows and wrinkles. The fillers are gel-like substances that serve to fill the furrowed areas that need plumping up, thus producing a more fuller, youthful appearance. The most common sites in which fillers are effective are in the lower face such as the lips, nasolabial folds (the creases that run from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth) and marionette lines (the creases that run from the corner of the mouth to the chin).
Dermal filler is injected directly into the skin just below the area of treatment. The result is instant with a noticeable reduction in the appearance of the line being treated. An example from the world of fashion explains this phenomenon: an Italian luxury brand designs a dress in the style of a kilt, held together with a large safety pin. The idea of putting a needle through the outrageously expensive material each time the kilt is put on, will make you question whether you should really do it. Yet you should, as the needle is blunt and cannot destroy the material fibres.

Nasolabial
This is the skin crease that runs from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth. It is the most frequently treated area using dermal filler. Significant yet subtle results can be easily achieved, creating a fresher look to the face.
Try it yourself in the mirror: the effect of treatment can to some extent be mimicked by placing a finger on the cheek bone beneath the eye and lifting the skin gently upwards and outwards until the nasolabial line is softened or removed to the desired amount.

Lower face, marionette lines & chin
Creases from the edge of the mouth to the chin, sometimes referred to as marionette lines can be easily softened using dermal fillers. Try for yourself in the mirror: the effect of treatment can to some extent be mimicked by placing a finger outside the skin crease on the cheek above the jaw line, then lifting the skin gently upwards and outwards until the line is removed to the desired amount.
